Skin Care Lotion - Choosing the Right One for Your Baby

As grown-ups, a lot of people may get pretty caught up searching for that ideal skin care lotion that'll give them smooth, firm, and youthful skin. If only adult skin care is just as easy as baby skin care! Unfortunately, this is not the case. As we grow older, our skin care needs change and we have to adapt to it. And besides, the idea of baby skincare being a lot less complicated may not entirely be true.

Skin Care Lotion for Babies - Read Thy Label!

Ironically, our skin is most beautiful during that point in our lives when we really didn't care at all about it. And that is, when we were babies. As mentioned earlier, skin care for infants is not exactly easy. Parents should always be on the look out for harmful elements that may cause allergic reactions to the baby's delicate skin. That means that parents should well, check on virtually all the products we use everyday! As such, it is recommended that for the first month, only use water for cleaning the baby.

Eventually however, parents like buying all sorts of baby products like baby powder, baby lotions, baby shampoo, and the list can go on and on. I'm sure this is totally cute and exciting, especially for first time moms and dads. But on a more serious note, it's very important for parents to read the labels of whatever baby product they wish to get for their precious one. Unfortunately, trusting a particular brand for its popularity or name may not be enough. Not even the words “natural, ” “mild” or “hypoallergenic” across the label can cut it. Bottom line, reading through the label to know the actual ingredients is still the best way to go.

According to the Cosmetics Ingredients Review of 2003, 100% of the baby lotions that they studied “contained ingredients, which had insufficient research backing their safety, ” while 59% “contained ingredients that were allergens.” Specific examples of these harmful ingredients that parents should watch out for include Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), Propylene Glycol Stearate, Methylparaben and Propylparaben. As an alternative, look for baby lotions and other baby products that are more organic. And again, READ THE LABEL. Now that's what you truly call taking care of your baby's delicate skin.
