Cosmetic Industry - Safeguarding the European Market

On one hand, the cosmetic industry continues to grow with more and more people becoming aware of and concerned with their physical appearance and grooming. On the other, it is met with a lot of protests, especially with regards to the way these cosmetic products are manufactured and the ingredients they contain. In Italy cosmetic products are just as popular, especially since Italy is one of the fashion capitals of the world. This country is then not exempted from these buzzing issues.

Cosmetic Industry - The Challenge for European Governments

With the growing concerns over the short-term and long-term effects of cosmetic products -- particularly the detrimental effects -- the different European governments are taking the necessary steps to get a firmer hold on the industry. This is hoped to result in the conformity to laws and proper standards for the manufacture of cosmetic products.

The addition of ten new members to the European Union further strengthens and establishes the laws and regulations to ensure the safe and legal manufacturing and movement of cosmetic products across the different country members of the Union.

One of the things that the established laws regulate and ensure is the ingredients used in the cosmetic product. This comes with a directive that defines the analysis methods that should be used for checking the composition of the cosmetic product, as well as a directive for ensuring that all the ingredients used in the product are promptly listed in the label.

There are also regulations for the proper classification. labeling, and packaging of dangerous substances, as well as for controlling the quantity allowed in prepackaged products. Along with this is the effort to standardize the units of measurement used across the country members. In addition, there are provisions for the proper packaging and disposal of wastes.

Not only European governments are making the move on ensuring the safety of cosmetic products. Even the US government and other governments are taking the necessary steps. This is indeed a great challenge for both the government and the cosmetic product manufacturers.
