Cosmetic Ingredients - Why You Should Opt for Natural Ingredients
It is important to be careful and aware of the cosmetic ingredients used in our skin and beauty products. These ingredients don't just stay on the surface of the skin but are absorbed into the bloodstream and can cause various health problems. It is for these reasons that we should always try to choose products made of natural ingredients. We can even make our own skin care products. Natural lotion recipes, for one, abound in the Internet, so we should try to be resourceful for the sake of keeping our skin and body healthy. Harmful ingredients can usually be found in cheaper brands, although they're not completely nonexistent in conventional or luxury brands, as these ingredients are convenient and cheap for the company. This shouldn't make you suspicious of all commercial beauty products, though, as there are still some that are truly made only of natural ingredients. Just be careful and thorough in reading the labels of the products you buy. At the same time, you should be able to distinguish the harmful from the friendly ingredients. Watch out for the ingredients Butyl, Propyl, Methyl, and Ethyl Parabens. These are highly toxic and can cause allergic reactions. Propylene Glycol can also cause allergic reactions and can even cause kidney damage and liver abnormalities. It is also used as an industrial antifreeze the same way that DMDM Hydrantoin is used as an antifreeze in cars. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a shampoo ingredient that can cause a number of health disorders among which are bladder and kidney infections, urinary tract, genital disorders, and allergic reactions to name a few. The same can be said of Triethanolamine (TEA) or Diethanolamine (DEA), which cause organ damage aside from eye problems and dryness of the skin and hair. Synthetic colors labeled as D&C or FD&C are carcinogens, while synthetic fragrances are just as ill-causing. Imidazolidinyl Urea and Diazolidinyl Urea causes contact dermatitis, and the ingestion of Behentrimonium Chloride can be fatal. Contrary to belief, petrolatum promotes sun damage, destroys the coating of the skin and interferes with the body's own natural moisturizing mechanism. There's no better time to start going natural than now. Just the thought of what these toxic chemicals can do to the body is scary enough. You don't have to bear with these consequences, though, as there are better alternatives out there. You just have to know when and where to find them.
