As with any other aspects between a man and a woman, there are also differences between women's and men's skin. In particular, there are differences in the pharmaceutical skin care of men and women. Men's skin care has to be attended to with pharmaceutical products that are especially designed for men.
Pharmaceutical Skin Care for Men
It has been proven that men have thicker and oilier skin than women. As such, pharmaceutical skincare products for men must be durable and effective enough to penetrate the layers of the skin and provide optimal skin care. Also, since men's skin is oilier, more robust and efficient cleansing agents should be used.
Another reason why men should regularly cleanse and exfoliate is that men's pores tend to be larger than women's, so men's skin is more exposed to dirt and debris. Men's skin is then more prone to acne and blackheads.
However, men don't need to exfoliate as much as they need to cleanse, and don't need to use exfoliating agents that are as harsh as those that women use.
Most men have facial hair and often shave. This has an exfoliating effect. On the other hand, hair follicles secrete more oil than other glands; thus, the need for constant cleansing.
In addition, the oil in men's skin tends to be more dense and complex than women's due to the presence of testosterone. A lot of men also suffer from ingrown hairs and need stronger shave and after-shave products.
Men tend to be less aware of proper skin care and tend to get more skin damage from the environment than women.
This includes the heat of the sun and wind exposure. What's more, bar soaps, alcohol-based colognes and after-shaves can cause the skin to dry.
