Natural Cosmetics and Skin Care
These days, everything is about being healthy, saving the environment and still managing to keep things as beautiful naturally. The beauty business is certainly not an exception.
Organic beauty products have invaded our medicine cabinets and beauty kits, thanks to some clever marketing by the big wigs of the beauty world. Natural cosmetics and skin care are the buzz in the cosmetics world.
Most advertising products for makeup, shampoo and perfume have references to "organic", "natural", or "untreated."
Natural Cosmetics and Skin Care - 100% Organic?
Are organic cosmetics really ORGANIC in the first place? Based on a study on the Personal Care Products industry, Lacey Phillabaum points out that many of the beauty products labeled "organic" aren't really complying with the National Organic Program (NOP).
Natural beauty products are disgracefully under-regulated. Some dangerous chemicals and synthetic additives are still being used in the processing of organic cosmetics.
The NOP has been vague about the standards of these natural beauty products, unlike with organic foods. In being unclear about it, beauty product manufacturers can easily add the term "organic" to their beauty product as a marketing scheme, with only a negligible amount of true-to-form organic ingredients in the product.
Until such time the NOP makes a clear statement about the standards of producing organic cosmetics and other related natural cosmetics and skin care items, the consumer can never really be too sure about the guarantee that the organic beauty product they're buying is indeed natural.
In order to be a wise consumer, read the label carefully with special attention to the ingredients.
One way to know if the organic beauty product is indeed organic is to check if the first few listings under "ingredients" is made up of natural ingredients. Second, avoid items which say "by-products of..." or "essence of..."; most likely, they only have a trace of the organic ingredient your skin really needs.
The best organic beauty product you're body will thank you for is the most natural - WATER. Drinking the recommended amounts of 8-10 glasses a day will keep you as beautiful as wearing an "aqua-infused moisturizing foundation".
