Don't forget that the main purpose of getting a cosmetic case is to keep your beauty products organized! So the first thing to ask yourself is if the cosmetic case if for home use, everyday use or travel.

If the cosmetic bag is for home use, it should be big enough to accommodate all your cosmetics. Of course, you can use your cosmetics drawer instead but many women like carrying their cosmetics from the bedroom to the bathroom so buying one for home use is perfectly fine.

A cosmetic case for everyday use is basically the cosmetic bag you bring along everyday to work. It has your basic cosmetic products (ONLY the ones you can't live with out during the day!) and should therefore be smaller.

A travel cosmetic case should preferably come with a built-in hanger so it's easy to hang in a hotel bathroom or wherever you go to avoid clutter. If you always travel, it's handy if you put in a separate set of your must-have cosmetics products there and ready-to-go (preferably, the beauty products should be in their small, travel size versions).

Regardless of your intended use, a cosmetic case should be sturdy, have different compartments for your different cosmetics and be water-proof so you don't end up opening a gooey mess.
