Make Your
Skin Look And Feel Younger
You are as old only as you
feel. True… however, time has its own way of reminding us exactly how old we are
doesn't it? What's worse, if we don't take proper care of our skin, we may well
end up looking older that what we really are!
We
may not have found the ever elusive fountain of youth but we will let you in on
10 secrets that will give your skin that youthful glow. Mind you, these secrets
go beyond creams and other cosmetics, and surgery. The key to making your skin
look and feel younger requires an entire shift in mind set and lifestyle.
However, considering its rewards, it is all going to be worth it.
1. Go natural
Who says you have to spend
tons of money to have younger, supple skin? Go for natural home skincare
remedies instead! To treat fine lines and wrinkles, as well as dry, cracked
skin, try applying the juice of green apples or pineapples on your face.
You may
apply the juice of either fruit by hand and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before
rinsing off. You may also rub the core of the pineapple all over your face. The
juices are helpful in improving the tone and texture of your skin, leaving it
fresher and younger-looking.
2. Treat your face to a regular facial massage
After a long day of
wearing make-up, wash your face and remove excess oils by using fresh lime
juice. With the lime juice still on, treat your face to a 5-minute facial
massage.
Starting from your neck, gently but firmly massage your face in an
upward motion up until your hairline. Rinse your face then moisturize, apply
your cream or lotion in the same upward, massaging motion.
3. Water Power
Do not forget to drink
your mandatory 8 glasses of liquids each and every day to re-hydrate your skin.
This will keep your skin from looking dry, rough and wrinkly due to loss of
elasticity.
4. Eat right
Maintaining a
well-balanced diet goes beyond staying fit. Eating fatty foods makes your skin
oily. Keep early signs of aging at bay by packing your diet with lot of fruits
and vegetables.
5. Protect your skin from the sun
Did you know that 90% of
skin problems associated with aging are caused by too much sun exposure? Skin
problems include wrinkly, blotchy pigmentation also known as liver spots,
thinning of the skin, premature wrinkling, skin dryness, and even skin cancer.
Don't forget to protect
your skin every time you go out. Use sun block with at least an SPF of 15. Avoid
being out during midday (i.e., from 10am to 3pm when the sun's rays are at their
worst). Also, don't forget to wear dark sunglasses to protect the skin around
your eyes.
6. Quit smoking and stop drinking
Smoking and drinking are
among the major factors that cause premature aging of the skin. While smoking
leaves a lot of deep wrinkles, alcohol dehydrates the skin, slows down blood
circulation, and keeps vitamins and minerals from reaching your skin.
This could
then lead to broken capillaries, especially over the nose and around the cheek
area. So quit these bad habits now if you want to hold on to your youthful
appearance.
7. De-stress regularly
It's a given. Everyday
life can be stressful. Everyone can attest to that – even your skin. Be sure
that you get enough sleep to get rid of those dark circles around your eyes,
which make you look tired and old.
Also, try squeezing in fun activities into
your busy schedule – like playing a sport you like, spoiling yourself with a
long, luxurious bubble bath or reading a good book. Give yourself time to relax
and you'll feel more alive inside and out.
8. Get moving
Just like maintaining a
well-balanced diet, exercising goes beyond dropping the excess pounds. A regular
exercise routine increases blood circulation, calms your nerves and promotes
deeper, more relaxed sleeping habits, making your whole body feel and look good.
9. Choose the right cosmetics
When buying cosmetics,
don't limit your choice based on what's popular, what you've seen on TV or in
magazines, or what all your friends are buying. Choosing cosmetics is like
shopping for clothes – you have to find the right fit.
Therefore, make sure to
test them first to see if they agree with your skin. Also, read labels to make
sure they don't have harmful ingredients. Buying the wrong cosmetics can lead to
allergic reactions or to excessive oiliness, making your skin look older.
10. SMILE!
It takes more effort to
frown than to smile! A beaming smile makes you look happier, younger and can
even make you feel good about yourself. So have a positive outlook in life and
show it with a smile.
Oh yeah… this can also prevent you from developing
unwanted lines and wrinkles across your forehead and the area between your
eyebrows.
